UTM codes 📊

UTM tags (Urchin Tracking Module) are parameters that are added to the end of the URL (web address). They are used to receive statistics about the campaign that is tagged. Thanks to this, tracking the traffic from various sources in detail is possible. For example, by tagging advertising banners, checking their effectiveness is possible, and after the analysis, you can optimize them or remove those which do not work.

There are 5 parameters (see below) that you can add to the link and use in any order.

🔶 utm_source (source) – specifies the source from which users are obtained, e.g. newsletter.

🔶  utm_medium (medium) – determines the type of link, e.g. whether it was a transition from a banner or an email.

🔶  utm_campaign (campaign) – defines the promotion, campaign, etc.

🔶  utm_term (keywords) – specifies keywords.

🔶  utm_content (content) – specifies what exactly was clicked on, e.g. banner or URL.

How to enable UTM?

There are two ways of doing that. To enable the UTM, go to the “settings” page in the menu bar. Then choose the “general” tab.

Or you can copy and paste the link below:

https://panel.postfity.com/settings#/_#&tab=general

Scroll down until you reach the UTM settings and click on the box. Click on the “save settings” box to make it active.

There are parameters you can change for specific social media. To do that, go to the “social accounts” tab and choose the account you want to change the settings for.

Scroll down until you reach the “UTM links” field. You can fill them up with a source, medium, and campaign. Then click on the “save UTM links” button to save changes.

If you choose to leave these fields empty, the UTM will be generated automatically.

You can enable the UTM while creating a post. You can find an icon of the settings next to the “create post” box. Click on it to change them.

To enable the UTM, check the box next to the “UTM codes enabled” text.

What does it look like?

If you enter a link to the “create post” box, you will see the difference only after scheduling your post.

As you can see in the photo below, the UTM parameters were added to the link.

You can see the full web address if you turn off the “shortlinks”. Read more about shortlinks [here].
